How to host a dedicated Palworld server
If you're looking to setup a dedicated server, you will need a copy Palworld for Steam. You'll need a decent PC for the server software if you are a beginner in the dedicated server world. It must be running at all times. Xbox Game Pass subscribers are not able to use the tool for creating a Palworld dedicated server at the moment, but that could change in the near future.
You may not be comfortable with Windows' command-prompt feature. In that case, you might want to skip this step for the time being. Before you try to run your Palworld server, read Valve's steamCMD to refresh on the basics.
This is what you'll need to set up a Palworld dedicated server:
- Click on the Library tab in Steam. Click 'Games and Software" under the Home button. Make sure that the 'Tools box' is checked.
- If you have a copy Palworld in your Steam library, you will be able find 'Palworld Dedicated Server.'
- Start 'Palworld Dedicated Server,' then select the first option - 'Play Palworld Dedicated Server.
- SteamCMD will be ready when you copy and paste this command:'steamcmd+login anonymous +app_update 239410 valid +quit'.
- We're going to head to the folder we just downloaded by using the following command: 'cd .\steamapps\common\PalServer'.
- Once we are in the Palworld folder, we simply need to type 'PalServer.exe.' The dedicated server will start running.
- The following command will change the port used to listen to your server: 'port=8211 (replace 8211 by a different number).
- Send your friends the external IP address along with the port (formatted as: xxx.xxx.xxx.:xxxx) to have them join the server via the browser.
Palworld's dedicated servers are still in their early stages, so some features are not available yet. One of these is the ability to set a password for your server. This feature will be included in the next game update. For now, however, you'll have to use a community server if you need to set a password.
If you want to play with four or more people and don't have the time to set up a community server, the online co-op mod is the way to go. It doesn't even require the setting up of a server. You can still invite your friends to play, battle, and trade with each other.
